The window shows both the outside, the city scape expanding out over the horizon as far as the eye can see even from this high up. The sun is setting and as it drops below the horizon the auto dimmer lightens up. The reflection of the dinner table and the old man in a blue suit sipping on a wine glass is only disturbed when the door opens letting the outside hallways light into the room. The shadow of another figure is seen walking in wearing a slightly odd and beat up cowboy hat.
"You're late and must you always drag that ridiculous hat with you everywhere?" Beryl Shinra, the current president of ShinRa Industries sits his glass down and motions to a chair across from him.
"Well, It gives a bit of character. Something you've been lacking Mr. President." Taking his hat off, Professor Ghest sits it on the table and pulls out his seat to sit down. The old man wearing a red duster jacket takes a seat. "I was out on some personal business when I received your invitation."
"You made it however, That is what counts. I was getting afraid you might have finally passed away on the elevator ride up." Beryl grins as his mustache curls with his lips.
"Mr. Cliche'stache what is it you wish to talk to me about?" Ghest cuts through the bullshit with his words.
"The mustache gives me a certain character Ghest. The board isn't happy with the funding percentage given to you're project. They want to know why we need you and the KNIGHTS when our military and more particularly our generals all say they can handle any threat thrown at them and have always been capable. The PR from having your poster boy around is good, but we can always just shift him back and keep him on the walls of the impressionable young kiddies." His tone is serious as he holds his chin in his hand.
"You know the answer to that better than me." Ghest just scowls back at him.
"I know this, but even me as President can't just keep saying it's going to be this way because I said so. I need something to show them Ghest. Give me a reason, give me a good show and It will let the board's concerns melt away."
Ghest knew what he was asking. It would be difficult however considering the military has been trying to keep them out of warzones more lately. The KNIGHTS were never supposed to replace the military or the SOLDIER program, just be another tool for a different type of threat out there as they dimension hop around. To give a showcase of exactly what the KNIGHTS could possibly do would require a giant stroke of luck at this moment.
"I'll see what I can do, but as long as we are sitting here with our underwear hanging out in the backyard, how long you gonna just sit there and let things slide around you?" Ghest snaps back at the president who takes in a deep breath letting the question sink in.
"All of my plans are firmly in control. What could you ever be referring to?"
Ghest stands up and walks to the large window overlooking the city. Ghest gestures to it. "The empire you have horded...much like a dragon sitting atop it's gold pile not knowing the coins are slowly siding off getting ready to deliver it's overlord a nasty fall." Shinra starts to clinch his fist. "Now let me finish for a second before you get all huffy. This is merely a warning, not a threat, one can't simply ignore the circling rats trying to steal the treasure and whatever the plans to do with that treasure would have been. You might need to find a qualified rat catcher Mr. President."
"Isn't that what I have you for and your KNIGHTS?" Beryl tilts his head trying to suggest the obvious.
Grabbing his hat and putting it on the old man known as Professor Ghest shakes his head. "Sorry, My focus is on things a bit bigger in scale. They like to eat worlds instead of cheese." Heading towards the door Ghest grunts out a last parting word. "I'll get your show somehow." Slamming the door he leaves.
Beryl places his fingers together as he stares out the window over the city, the reflection catching the shadowy energy flickering from his eyes as he sits and grinds his teeth.
