There have always been certain colors associated with kinds of materia. Green for magic, blue for support, yellow for command, purple for independent, and red for summon materia has always been the standard. New research has given us a new kind of materia, one that not only gives its user new options but more flexibility. This brand new materia also comes in a new color...Orange.
Below I will give just one example of Orange Materia, A Dark Knight. But first lets explain how they work. They are still a materia and take up a slot for materia and like any other materia they have to be activated. Once activated the materia effectively changes you into that "class" imparting knowledge and basic weaponry to you if you don't have a weapon you already want to use with said class. Once activated you gain the ability to use all the skills associated with that class up to the Materia Level it has grown. Yes Orange Materia gain levels just like any other materia. However once an Orange Materia is mastered the passives given off by it will remain in effect while the Materia is equipped.
So lets look at our example Orange Materia. You will notice the Name of the materia is simply the class it becomes, Dark Knight. However once activated all the abilities are under an active ability Category. For this example, Dark Blade, is that name. Afterwards you will list the level of Materia each ability will be learned under.
Materia: Dark Knight - Active Abilities Category [Dark Blade]
Level 1: Dark Blade - Sanguine Sword: Absorb HP from the target.
-------------------------- Infernal Strike: Absorb MP from the target.
Passive: HP Boost: Increase health by 20%
Level 2: Dark Blade- Crushing Blow: Inflict damage with a sinister sword. Also attempts to inflict STOP status ailment.
------------------------- Abyssal Blade: Sacrifice own health to deal damage to others, with the nearest units suffering the most damage.
Level 3: Dark Blade- Unholy Sacrifice:Sacrifice own Health to deal extensive damage to all units in range with the dark element and also attempting to give the slow status effect.
Passive: Vehemence: Increase attack power by 50 percent and decrease defensive power by 50 percent.
So when slotted in a brand new Dark Knight Orange materia will give someone when activated in combat access to Sanguine Sword and Infernal strike as well as boost up their health by 20%. Once leveled to 2, they would get access to two new abilities and finally at level 3 they round it out with Unholy Sacrifice and the passive Vehemence to go all out attack.(Who needs defense right?) But there is one more level of growth and that is when a materia is fully mastered! When an Orange Materia is mastered it does produce a new level 1 version but also gives the added bonus of having the passives activated at all times!
As far as support materia interactions i would say it pretty much works like normal. Examples would be added cut to give a few more attacks in there with each strike or even newer support materia made specifically for it, maybe one that gives a full set of gear or weaponry to accompany the activation.
Really this is only an example, you can have your own custom classes with all different kinds of abilities and passives and whatnot. It's all in fun and if anyone is interested with the idea at all I can't wait to see what you guys come up with!
